Gonna Pounce part 5

Gonna Pounce part 5

Hey thanks so much for being here.

I want to remind everyone to check out my bookshop.org storefront. Anything you buy through that link will get me a cut. Check out my lists of favorite books. Also any other links I post go through that same storefront.

Also, I'm toying with the idea of posting once in a while exclusively for paid subscribers. Anything you'd like to see for that? It's a new idea that may not go anywhere.

This weeks Rec's:

No One Slept by Rafael Sica (Author), Bruna Dantas Lobato (Translated by)

I somehow missed this one until the last minute but was able to give it a read and I LOVE IT. It's definitely spooky and might be too spooky for some kids but my goodness it's really well done. Kind of a ghost story but also an affirming little tale about reading and family. Illustrations remind me of Edward Gorey via Fionn McCabe. (Have you heard of him? He's pretty good.) This is from the same publisher as last week's The Lighthouse Keeper. I really love all these translated picture books coming over these days.

Piccolo by Dan Yaccarino

This is just tremendously cute. It's about a little dude who lives in Italy and has lots of friends and helps them all out in various ways. Lots of good opportunities to learn some Italian words for fancy kids. Also a fun tour of an alternative universe anthropomorphic Rome.

Great historical horror for the grown-ups:

The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones

Stephen Graham Jones is the author behind The Only Good Indians which is the first horror novel that ever made me cry. (yes that's a regular thing now....) His new book is about vampires but it's really about the history of the Blackfeet and their relationship to the wild Buffalo herds as well as the colonizers who showed up and ruined everything. One of the best books I've read in forever, this guy is my favorite modern author, I think!

Love you all, cheers!
