Gonna Pounce part 3

Gonna Pounce part 3

This weeks Rec's:

The Witch in the Tower by Júlia Sardà

Completely stunning and awe-inspiring. Sarda's writing is classical perfection and her art is a next-level revelation that evokes greats such as Tomi Ungerer and Peter Max. Every page turn is a breathtaking, delightful surprise. The kind of book a child could spend hours getting lost in. It doesn't get much better than this.

All Around the Year by Marian Ruiz Johnson

This is the nicest, most pleasant picture book I've read in a while. A full year in the life of this very cool and wholesome mouse family and all their friends and neighbors. Excellent cartoony art and beautiful diversity of characters. Warmed my heart during a week when I really needed that. Take care of yourself!

The Village Beyond the Mist by Sachiko Kashiwaba

A long-awaited first translation of a Japanese classic. Tells a quirky tale of a kid who is sent to the mysterious Misty Valley to assist the local businesses in servicing various spirits, imps, gnomes and all manner of otherworldly passersby. While not the same plot at all, this book was very inspirational to Hayao Miyazaki in crafting his masterpiece, "Spirited Away". Anyone who loves his films will surely adore this book.

One for the Grown-ups:

Exiles by Mason Coile

Gold, Kang and Blake are three astronauts on the first mission towards colonizing Mars and are about to land to meet the robots who have prepared their new home when everything goes pearshaped. This is a very exciting and fast-paced Geiger/Lovercraft space station horror story. Claustrophobic and freaky.

Thanks everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
